- Gov Okowa declares 24-hour curfew…
AN attempt by some hoodlums to raze the Ughelli Area Command was foiled by men of the Delta Police Command on Wednesday.
The Command, while confirming the attempt, noted that its men were able to repel the attack which was launched around 3pm.
In a viral video dozens of armed policemen could be seen around the Ughelli Area Command chanting war songs and warning the hoodlums to steer clear of the Command and barracks or face their wrath.
“The Police are protesting in Ughelli Area Command/ ‘A’ Division. Stop the killing of Police, enough is enough. And stop burning our Police stations. The Police are human beings. We are tired, we are ready.
“We will kill those hoodlums now that are trying to burn the station today. We overpowered them and sent them back. We will kill them. Enough is enough. They say they are coming we are waiting for them,” a voice behind the camera said.
Meanwhile, in a similar development, hoodlums last night vandalised the newly reconstructed Koka Junction recreation centre in Asaba, the state capital.
Governor Okowa in a bid to forestall further breakdown of law and order, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the state.
The governor, who gave the order in a live broadcast, directed all public and private primary and secondary schools in the state to shut down for two weeks.
The curfew starts at 6 pm today.
