Three key Liverpool players set to miss UCL clash vs Onyeka’s Midtjylland

THREE important Liverpool stars Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita and Joel Matip could miss Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League group phase fixture against Danish champions FC Midtjylland, Jurgen Klopp has admitted.  

Guinea midfielder Keita has aleady missed three matches following a positive COVID-19 result while central defender Matip and midfielder Thiago got injured against Everton.”I said last week it would be day by day but I think it will be a few more days,” Klopp told the BBC ahead of Tuesday’s clash.

Liverpool’s rock in defence Virgil van Dijk is out for months with injury but goalkeeper Alisson returned from an injury absence to feature in Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League win over Sheffield United.

The English champions might have to draft midfielder Fabinho into central defence while James Milner could fill in for the midfielder.

Midtjylland have on their books Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka who recently made his debut for the Super Eagles.

Onyeka was in action last Wednesday as the Danish side lost their first Group D match 4-0 at home to Atalanta.

Midtjylland, the whipping boys of the group, are bottom and will hope not to be at the end of another heavy thrashing at Anfield on Tuesday night.Liverpool are second in the group following last week’s hard-fought 1-0 win at Ajax Amsterdam.
