The Nigeria Football Federation, the League Management Company and several Super Eagles players took to social media on Friday to send special Christmas messages to football fans.
2020 Christmas is an unusual one amid the global second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, as movement is restricted and most families cannot be reunited for the festivities.
At a time like this, messages of hope and goodwill are more appreciated and football fans are happy to receive them from their heroes.
The NFF made their message quite simple, just tweeting “Merry Christmas” but flavouring it with a specially designed image that they posted along with it.
The LMC, the organisers of the Nigeria Professional Football League, followed in the footsteps of their supervising body, tweeting “Merry Christmas #NPFL21” also with a unique image attached.
Former Super Eagles star and Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo was a little more colourful in his message.
“Merry Christmas everyone 🎄🙏🏾,” he tweeted with lovely pictures of he and his three children and their Christmas tree attached.
Super Eagles midfielder Shehu Abdullahi also had a message for the fans, adding a little prayer.
“May the true spirit of Christmas shine in your heart and light your path. Merry Christmas friends and family,” the Cyprus-based player tweeted.
Victor Moses, who won the Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles in 2013 and retired from the team in 2018, send out a cheery message.
