Aubameyang stripped of Arsenal captaincy

ARSENAL have ended Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s tenure as the club’s captain.

The club explained that the armband has been taken away from the Gabonese striker over disciplinary issues.

He will also not be in the squad for Wednesday’s key Premier League clash against West Ham.

“Following his latest disciplinary breach last week, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will no longer be our club captain, and will not be considered for selection for Wednesday’s match against West Ham United,” Arsenal announced on Tuesday.

“We expect all our players, particularly our captain, to work to the rules and standards we have all set and agreed.

“We are fully focused on tomorrow’s match.”

Aubameyang was also dropped from last weekend’s 3-0 win against Newcastle United.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta explained then that it was over a ‘disciplinary breach’ but refused to give additional information.

There are reports that Aubameyang showed up for training late after taking time off to deal with a family emergency.
Arteta has hinted that the Gabon captain, 32, is a serial offender.

Aubameyang has scored four goals in 14 Premier League appearances for Arsenal this season.

Overall, he has made 163 appearances for the club, scoring 92 goals and making 21 assists.
