Cyril Dessers was the outstanding Super Eagles performer across Europe today, scoring twice for Genk, while Victor Osimhen was also in the scoresheet for Napoli.
Nigeria international striker Dessers struck in the fifth minute and converted a 29th minute penalty as Genk defeated Standard Liege 3-1 in their Belgian Pro League clash.
Dessers’ goals led Genk to their first win in two games this season. He has now hit three goals in the new campaign, having scored in their 3-2 reverse at Club Brugge last week.
Also in Belgium today, Nigerian midfielder Alhassan Yusuf played all 90 minutes to help Royal Antwerp beat Zulte Waregem 1-0.
It was Alhassan’s second 90-minute outing of the season, having featured last week when Royal Antwerp won 2-0 at KV Mechelen.
In France, Super Eagles forward Moses Simon was in full-time action as his Nantes side were battered 4-0 by star-studded Paris Saint-Germain in the season-opening Trophee de Champions.
Neymar scored twice, with Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos scoring the other goals as the Ligue 1 champions overran the Coupe de France holders.
In Germany, Super Eagles wide forward Chidera Ejuke was a 73rd minute substitute as Hertha Berlin, where he is on a season-long loan, crashed out of the DFB Cup on penalties to Eintracht Braunschweig after full-time and extra-time ended 4-4.
In England, Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi continued his recovery from long-term injury with a starting role in Leicester City’s pre-season friendly against Sevilla.
The holding midfielder played well into the second half before he was taken off as Leicester City won their final tune-up game 1-0.
The other Super Eagles star at Leicester City, Kelechi Iheanacho, was an unused substitute.
