Onuachu, Moffi, Simon on target ahead of Portugal vs Nigeria friendly

Three Super Eagles forwards were on the scoresheet tonight across Europe as their clubs secured positive results in the last matches before the Qatar 2022 World Cup break.

Although the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the World Cup, which kicks off next Sunday, the players are gearing up for a friendly against one of the title favourites Portugal, billed for Thursday in Lisbon.

While Paul Onuachu kept up his rich vein of goal-scoring form in Belgium tonight, both Terem Moffi and Moses Simon hit target in France.

All three players are in Jose Peseiro’s squad for the Portugal friendly.

Onuachu scored the opening goal in Genk’s 2-0 win at Anderlecht to take his club 10 points clear at the top of the Jupiler Pro League table.

The towering striker has now scored an incredible 13 goals in his last eight games since returning from an injury lay-off.

In France, Moffi scored Lorient’s goal in their 1-1 draw at Strasbourg to take his tally to 10 goals in 14 Ligue 1 outings.

Also in Ligue 1, Simon netted the equaliser in the 89th minute as Nantes came from two goals down to hold Ajaccio to a 2-2 draw.

The Nigerian wide forward has now contributed five goals and two assists in 13 Ligue 1 appearances this season.

Apart from tonight’s three scorers, two other Super Eagles stars, Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, were on target yesterday in Italy as the Nigeria forward line goes into the high-profile friendly in terrific form.
