AGF meets Adamu, Bagudu, El-Rufai, others over naira swap

THE Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN), appeared today at the National Secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, ahead of Wednesday’s Supreme Court hearing on the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) Naira swap policy.

The visit to the party’s headquarters came just 24 hours after governors who are party members met with the National Working Committee (NWC) and advised them to heed the Supreme Court’s order on the CBN’s Naira redesign and swap policy.

The meeting also asked President Muhammadu Buhari and CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele to do the same.

The Supreme Court had ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) not to execute the February 10 deadline for the use of old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes, but the CBN had defied the decision.

The case, however, was postponed until Wednesday.

Reports reveal that some APC governors who attended the Sunday emergency meeting also attended the private meeting Malami’s held with Adamu today.

The chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) and Kebbi State governor, Atiku Babudu, attended the meeting, alongside Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), and Bello Matawalle (Zamfara). They however refused to speak with reporters after the meeting.
