VICTOR Osimhen endured a rare game without a goal tonight with Napoli losing 1-0 to Lazio at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona.
The Super Eagles striker was on a hot streak of scoring in eight consecutive matches in the league before tonight, but Lazio produced a defensive masterclass to stop the Serie A leaders and their top scorer.
Matias Vecino scored the only goal of the tight encounter, hitting a sweet, unstoppable shot from distance in the 67th minute.
Leading Napoli’s charge for the equaliser, Osimhen came closest for his side, striking the crossbar with a header in the 89th minute.
Despite his best efforts, the Nigeria international failed to add to his already impressive 19 Serie A goals this season as Napoli suffered a rare defeat.
Tonight’s loss was only their second this season in the Italian top flight, and the first since January 4, incidentally also the last league match in which Osimhen failed to score.
Napoli are still comfortably ahead in the Serie A table and are on course for their first title in 33 years.
They are on top with 65 points from 25 games, 17 points ahead of Lazio, who climbed to second spot after tonight’s stunning victory.
AC Milan could cut Napoli’s lead to 15 points if last season’s champions beat Fiorentina tomorrow.
