RIVERS United have been drawn to face Tanzania’s Young Africans, also known as Yanga, in the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The draw that pitted the Nigeria Premier Football League champions against the East Africans was held tonight in Cairo, Egypt.

The quarter-final fixtures have been scheduled for the last week of April, with the first leg matches on April 23 and the return fixtures a week later.

The semi-finals will be played on May 14 and May 21.

If Rivers United advance past Yanga, they will face the winners of the quarter-final tie between Egypt’s Pyramid FC and Marumo Gallants of South Africa in the semi-finals.

In another CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final pairing, there will be a North African derby between Algeria’s USM Alger and Morocco’s AS FAR.

The Moroccan side are the only team in the last eight to have previously won the competition, having been crowned champions in 2005.

This was also the first time that the Moroccans were making it into the group stages since the 2006 season.

Pyramids FC, finalists of the 2019/2020 season, have been drawn against debutants Marumo Gallants of South Africa, and the Egyptians start the first leg at home in Cairo.

Also, 1998 Champions ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire have been paired against Tunisian side US Monastir, with the first leg in the North African country.

The final of the competition is set to revert to the home and away format and will be played on June 4 and June 11.
