INTER Milan comfortably advanced to the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in 13 years after a 1-0 victory over their city rivals AC Milan tonight.
Having won the first leg 2-0 last week at the same San Siro both sides share, Inter eased to the final 3-0 on aggregate.
Lautaro Martinez scored the only goal tonight to complete Inter’s dominance over their fierce rivals.
Three-time winners Inter will face either Manchester City or Real Madrid in Istanbul, Turkey on June 10, their first European final since Jose Mourinho led them to triumph in 2010.
AC Milan had most of the ball as Inter looked to soak up pressure and protect their lead, but Stefano Pioli’s side rarely looked like overturning the deficit.
Designated as the away side tonight, AC Milan looked out of sorts, and their main man in attack Rafa Leao, who missed the first leg through injury, had minimal impact on the game.
The only times Milan came close to scoring, Theo Hernandez fired over the crossbar with a ferocious strike and Brahim Diaz was denied by goalkeeper Andre Onana after a weak effort from close range.
Any lingering hope Milan had of getting back into the game was ended when Martinez squeezed the ball under Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan and into the bottom corner in the 74th minute.
