SUPER Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has praised the Flying Eagles despite their exit from the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina last night.

The Nigerian side lost 1-0 to South Korea, who scored five minutes into extra-time of the quarter-final clash in Santiago Del Estero.

Peseiro took to social media late last night to commend the team, insisting that they gave it their best shot and represented their country with pride.

“Heads up, Flying Eagles! What you have shown in this World Cup makes Nigerian people proud,” the Portuguese coach tweeted.

“They fought and honoured to the end and earned a place among the top 8 teams in the world.”

The Flying Eagles have never won the FIFA U-20 World Cup, ending up as runners-up on two occasions — in Saudi Arabia in 1989 and in The Netherlands in 2005.

In Argentina, they played five matches in all, winning three and losing two.

Nigeria beat Dominican Republic and Italy in Group D before losing to Brazil to finish in third place and squeeze through as one of the best third-placed teams.

They then produced one of the shocks of the tournament by eliminating hosts and six-time champions Argentina 2-0 in the round of 16 before last night’s defeat to South Korea.
