LIONEL Messi continued his sensational start to life in the United States of America in the early hours of today with another two goals for Inter Miami in their 5-3 penalty shootout victory over FC Dallas in the Leagues Cup round of 16 tie.
The Argentina captain joined the Major League Soccer club in July and has now scored seven goals in his first four appearances, steering the side to four straight wins.
Messi opened the scoring in the sixth minute but hosts FC Dallas were leading
4-2 with 10 minutes left.
Inter Miami then struck twice to tie the game and take it to penalties, with the 36-year-old Messi netting the equaliser with a free-kick in the 85th minute.
Messi converted his kick as Inter Miami won the penalty shootout 5-3 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
Remarkably, Inter Miami were winless in 11 matches before the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner joined them, but have now won four in a row.
Messi has scored in all four games and, impressively, has been named man of the match in each of them.
Inter Miami are the first club to reach the quarter-finals of this year’s Leagues Cup, which began in 2019 and involves teams from the United States and Mexico competing in a knockout format.
