Chukwueze, Okafor score first AC Milan goals in pre-season friendly win

SAMUEL Chukwueze and Noah Okafor opened their AC Milan accounts in a 4-2 pre-season friendly win over Novara at the Milanello Sports Centre in Milan.

Super Eagles forward Chukwueze scored the game’s first goal as Milan fielded a team of mostly new players and eased past the Italian third-tier side.

Chukwueze netted in the ninth minute, receiving a through pass from Okafor and rounding the Novara goalkeeper before slotting into an empty net.

Okafor, the 23-year-old Switzerland striker with Nigerian heritage, made it 2-0 six minutes later before Novara reduced the deficit in the 31st minute.

Davide Calabria and Lorenzo Colombo added two more goals in the second half for Milan but Novara pulled one back with two minutes left.

Chukwueze, 24, joined AC Milan in July for €20m from Villarreal, after six years at the Spanish club.

Okafor was signed for Milan for €14m also in July from RB Salzburg after registering 34 goals and 23 assists in 110 appearances for the Austrian club.

Milan, who finished fourth in Serie A last season and reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, will begin their Italian top flight campaign on Monday next week at Bologna.
