SUNDAY Oliseh has expressed his disgust at the performance of the Super Eagles in their opening 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign fixture against Lesotho.
The three-time African champions lacked ideas and cutting edge as they had to come from behind on Thursday to play a 1-1 draw in Uyo against the Southern Africans, who are ranked 153rd in the world by FIFA, 113 places below Nigeria.
Former Super Eagles captain and head coach Oliseh could not hide his frustration at the disappointing result and he posted his feelings on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Haba. This nightmare go ever end? Woke up to this shocker this morning,” the former Ajax, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus midfielder wrote yesterday.
Oliseh was a member of arguably the best Super Eagles squad in history who qualified for Nigeria’s first World Cup in 1994, won that year’s Africa Cup of Nations title and won Africa’s first-ever football gold at the Olympic Games in 1996.
He is obviously appalled at the alarming drop in standards of the once-great Super Eagles.
“Our homebased suppose dey beat Lesotho na! dem even first us score!!!!” he added in pidgin.
“The painful part be say, no consequences for this national embarrassments sef!”
The Super Eagles, who failed to qualify for the last World Cup in Qatar last year, can make some amends tomorrow when they face Zimbabwe in Rwanda in their second African qualifying Group C fixture.
