SUPER Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey were in action for Fulham tonight at Goodison Park as the club overcame Everton to reach their first-ever Carabao Cup semi-final.
Fulham prevailed 6-5 on penalties to reach the last four of the League Cup for the first time in their history, just as Chelsea also edged past Newcastle United after a shootout.
Iwobi played for 87 minutes against his former club while Bassey was partnered in central defence by Tosin Adarabioyo for the full game.
Fulham took the lead through a Michael Keane own goal in the 41st minute and it took until eight minutes to full-time for Everton to equalise via Beto.
The match went straight to penalties, with Bobby Decordova-Reid first missing for Fulham before Amadou Onana and Senegal midfielder Idrissa Gueye lost their kicks for the home side.
It was a similar situation at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea needing an added-time equaliser from substitute Mikhail Mudryk to cancel out Callum Wilson’s first-half opener before winning 4-2 on penalties.
In the other Carabao Cup quarter-final clash tonight, Middlesbrough thrashed Port Vale 3-0 to ease through to the semi-finals.
The semi-final set will be complete tomorrow night after Liverpool face West Ham United at Anfield.
In Italy, Super Eagles striker and current African Player of the Year Victor Osimhen was in action but he could not prevent Napoli from suffering a humiliating 4-0 defeat at home to Frosinone in the Coppa Italia round of 16.
The Nigeria international was brought on in the 63rd minute for Giovanni Simeone with scores still 0-0, and the visitors then proceeded to rout the Serie A champions.
