NOTTINGHAM Forest have confirmed the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as their manager, which means Super Eagles stars Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina will be playing under a new boss.
The Portuguese coach replaces Steve Cooper, who was sacked yesterday after two years in charge, during which he took them from the Championship to the English Premier League.
“Nottingham Forest can today confirm the appointment of Nuno Espírito Santo as first team head coach,” the club announced on their official website today.
“Nuno joins the club on a two-and-a-half-year contract and will take charge of his first match on Saturday when Forest face Bournemouth at The City Ground.
“The 49-year-old arrives with a wealth of experience having managed over 460 games in his career, including in the Premier League, La Liga, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.”
Santo previously managed Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, with the second one a disastrous spell that lasted just four months.
He began his managerial career at Rio Ave, guiding the Portuguese side to two cup finals and qualification to the UEFA Europa League for the first time in their history before taking charge of Valencia in 2014.
He steered the Spanish outfit to Champions League football with a fourth-placed finish in LaLiga in 2014/2015, before spending a year in charge of Porto where he won 27 of his 49 games.
He moved to England in 2017, taking charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers, and in his four seasons at Molineux, Santo led Wolves into the Premier League after winning the Championship title, before achieving successive seventh-placed finishes in their first two seasons back in the top flight.
Nuno also led Wolves into Europe, guiding them to the quarter-finals of the Europa League in 2019/2020, but left in 2021.
He was fired at Tottenham in his first season and joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad, who he led to the league and Cup double last season before getting fired this term following poor results.
