GHANA midfielder Mohammed Kudus has given an insight into why his side failed to hold on to their lead against Mozambique in a decisive AFCON 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group B clash in Abidjan last night.
The Black Stars were 2-0 up and cruising towards the round of 16 until two goals in added time ensured the match ended 2-2, leaving Ghana on the verge of elimination.
West Ham midfielder Kudus was a bright spark for the dimming Black Stars, but his individual display was overshadowed by Mozambique’s stunning comeback to salvage a point.
“I’m very disappointed, we really wanted this victory but it wasn’t to be,” Kudus, who was voted man of the match, told reporters.
“It’s a big disappointment for us.”
Kudus, who scored a brace in Ghana’s 2-2 draw with Egypt last week, noted that his side’s failure to retain their two-goal lead was due to a lack of focus.
“We lost the game by losing concentration in the last minutes, like against Egypt too,” the 22-year-old explained.
“We showed lots of qualities here but losing focus at the end cost us.”
Ghana finished third in Group B with just two points from three matches and need an unlikely combination of results from other groups to sneak through to the knockout rounds.
