SUPER Eagles of Nigeria head coach Jose Peseiro believes that his side were well worth their AFCON 2023 Africa Cup of Nations victory over Cameroon last night.

Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman scored twice and the Super Eagles restricted the Indomitable Lions to no shots on target in a superb defensive display at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abijdan, Cote d’Ivoire.

It was Nigeria’s third straight AFCON victory over their neighbours and fierce rivals, and Peseiro was delighted.

“We deserved the win, and we controlled the game,” Peseiro said during his post-match press conference as he looked forward to Friday’s quarter-final against Angola.

“If we want to beat Angola, we must give our best like today.”

The only negative from last night’s victory was the injury that forced goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali to be taken off and replaced by Francis Uzoho with 10 minutes of regulation time left.

Peseiro said his fingers were crossed regarding the availability of the Chippa United goalkeeper for the quarter-final clash.

“We have to wait 24 hours or 48 hours to know what is wrong with him but I hope he will available for the next game,” he noted.

Nwabali played the the first three games and kept two clean sheets and was on course for another shutout before the injury, which was caused by a collision with Georges-Kevin N’Koudou.
