Havertz, Palmer, Fernandes up for EPL award as Guardiola battles Arteta, Dyche

SIX players, including Arsenal’s Kai Havertz, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, have been shortlisted for April’s English Premier League Player of the Month award.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and Everton’s Sean Dyche are up for the manager prize.

The other nominees for the player award are Jean-Philippe Mateta of Crystal Palace, who scored five goals in six games in April, and Jordan Pickford, who kept four clean sheets to steer Everton away from relegation trouble.

Havertz scored four goals and made three assists in April as leaders Arsenal won five of their six fixtures during the month, including big victories over London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

On his part, Palmer registered seven goals and one assist in only four appearances, including a hat-trick against Manchester United and four goals against Everton, while Fernandes produced six goals and one assist in five matches for the struggling Red Devils.

Gvardiol, the only defender among the nominees, scored two goals, made one assist and helped City keep two clean sheets as the champions won all their five matches in April to stay in the title race.

For the managers, Arteta led Arsenal to give wins and one defeat in April with a goal difference of +11, Guardiola’s City won all five games in the month with a +15 goal difference, and Dyche led Everton to four victories, including their first home win over Liverpool in the Merseyside derby in 14 years.

The public votes will be combined with those of a panel of football experts to decide the winners of both awards, who will be revealed next week.
