EPL: Liverpool survive late Tottenham fightback as Chelsea batter West Ham

LIVERPOOL kept themselves mathematically in the English Premier League title race with a 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield today after Chelsea continued their resurgence by hammering West Ham 5-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will need Arsenal and Manchester City to suffer a monumental collapse in the final stretch of the season to stand any chance of winning the EPL title, but they showed they would not give it up without fighting with a ruthless display within an hour at Anfield.

The Reds were 4-0 up by the hour mark, with Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson netting in the first half.

Cody Gakpo made it 3-0 five minutes after the break and Harvey Elliott struck a superb shot in the 59th minute as Liverpool looked to be cruising to a wide-margin win.

Tottenham, who almost drew at home with Arsenal after going 3-0 down last month, staged another late fightback as Richarlison pulled one back in the 71st minute and Son Heung-min made it 4-2 with 13 minutes left on the clock.

The visitors piled pressure on the brittle Liverpool defence and came close twice but the hosts held on to claim all three points.

Liverpool are third in the table, five points behind leaders Arsenal, with both having two games left. Champions City are second, four points ahead of Liverpool and with a game in hand.

Earlier, Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson netted twice, with Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher and Noni Madueke scoring the other goals as Chelsea eased past West Ham.

Chelsea have garnered seven points from their last three Premier League fixtures after the 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal in April, and they overtook Manchester United to seventh place after today’s big win.
