World Relays: Team Nigeria qualifies for Paris Olympics men’s, women’s 4x100m

TEAM Nigeria secured two more Paris 2024 Olympics tickets in the early hours of today at the World Athletics Relays event in Nassau, Bahamas.

After having earned spots in the men’s 4×400 metres and mixed 4x400m yesterday, Team Nigeria added the men’s 4x100m and women’s 4x100m tickets to cap a successful outing.

In the women’s 4x100m, the Nigerian quartet of Justina Eyakpobeyan, Favour Ofili, Olayinka Olajide and Tima Godbless won their heat in a season’s best of 42.71 seconds to clinch a ticket to Paris.

In the men’s 4x100m, Udodi Onwuzuruike, Consider Ekanem, Alaba Akintola and Karlington Anunagba combined to finish second in their heat in 38.57s to also earn a spot at the Olympic Games.

They came second behind Ghana, who also grabbed an Olympic spot and clocked a season’s best time of 38.29s.

Liberia also qualified for the men’s 4x100m and Cote d’Ivoire earned a women’s 4x100m spot on a big night for Africa.

During the two-day event, Team Nigeria secured four of five relay berths — men’s 4x100m and 4x400m, women’s 4x100m and mixed 4x400m — missing out on only the women’s 4x400m.
