‘He wants to go’: Victor Osimhen submits transfer request to Napoli

VICTOR Osimhen has informed Napoli officially that be wants to leave the club during the current transfer window.

The Super Eagles striker signed a new Napoli deal last year with the condition that he would be sold this summer for the right offer.

Part of the agreement was to include a release clause, believed to be between €120m and €130m, so that any club that met it would sign Osimhen.

However, despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, the release clause has not been met and Napoli are standing their ground.

Osimhen has now put in a transfer request, telling the club to let him go.

“Victor Osimhen has asked to leave the club. He wants to go,” Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna confirmed last night.

“The situation is clear, there were already chances for his exit last summer…Victor wants to leave. We will see in the next 20 days.”

The transfer window will close at the end of August and, according to reports, the best offers Napoli have received for Osimhen are player plus cash deals from PSG and Chelsea.

Napoli are also resigned to losing their best striker of the last four years and Osimhen did not feature in any of their pre-season matches despite training with the team.

He was not included in the squad for their first official match of the season, yesterday’s 4-3 win over Modena in the Coppa Italia.

Napoli’s new head coach Antonio Conte has already identified Romelu Lukaku as Osimhen’s replacement and Napoli are negotiating with Chelsea for the Belgium striker.

Nigeria international Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in September 2020 for around €80m and was Serie A top scorer with 26 goals in 2022/2023 as they won their first Scudetto in 33 years.
