PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate’s confirmation of Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga stated that the request aligns with the country’s legal framework.

“President Bola Tinubu has submitted a letter to the Senate seeking the confirmation of Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff,” Onanuga announced in a statement today.

According to Onanuga, the President’s request is in accordance with Section 218(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act.

Lieutenant General Oluyede has been serving as Acting Chief of Army Staff since October 30, following the illness of Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on November 5 and was subsequently buried in Abuja.

President Tinubu expressed confidence in Oluyede’s leadership qualities, professional integrity, and experience, emphasizing his ability to lead the army in ensuring national security and stability.
