TROOPS of the 135 Special Forces Battalion under Operation Hadin Kai have dismantled a roadblock allegedly mounted by JAS/ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, rescuing 53 civilians and recovering eight vehicles.
The military operation was carried out on Wednesday after troops stationed at Dutse Kura detected suspected insurgents blocking the highway through surveillance cameras.
A Quick Reaction Force (QRF) was immediately deployed to the location, where soldiers pursued the fleeing terrorists toward the Mangari–Dora axis.
According to the military, the troops engaged the insurgents in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat.
They subsequently advanced into the area, cleared the terrorists’ withdrawal route, and conducted follow-up search operations to ensure the route was secure. No further contact with the fleeing insurgents was reported during the clearance operation.
In a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, the military confirmed that all 53 rescued civilians, along with the recovered vehicles and other belongings, were safely evacuated to Buratai town.
The rescued individuals are currently undergoing documentation and medical evaluation.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism during the operation, describing it as part of the ongoing offensive against terrorist groups operating in the North-East.
The military also appealed to residents within the Joint Operations Area to remain vigilant and continue providing timely intelligence on suspicious movements and activities.
It added that security forces remain on high alert and are maintaining an aggressive operational posture to sustain pressure on insurgent groups across the region.
The latest operation forms part of Operation Hadin Kai’s continued efforts to disrupt terrorist activities, secure major routes, and protect communities affected by insurgency in Borno State.
