A  28-year-old Nigerian woman, Eniola Isaac, is expected to return to Nigeria following intervention by officials from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in Jordan, which oversees Iraq.

Isaac was reportedly trafficked to Iraq under false promises of a better life but endured severe abuse, physical assaults, and mistreatment from her employer. In desperation, she sought assistance from Nigerian authorities to facilitate her return.

NiDCOM yesterday shared an update via its official X account, highlighting Isaac’s case as a stark reminder of the growing issue of trafficking Nigerians to Iraq under deceptive pretenses.

“Eniola Isaac, a 28-year-old trafficked Nigerian girl in Iraq, is set to return to Nigeria on January 3rd, thanks to intervention by the Nigerian mission in Jordan.

“Meanwhile, another Nigerian who traveled to Iraq as a caregiver and died under suspicious circumstances is being investigated, with the government demanding an autopsy to determine the cause of death,” NiDCOM stated.

The commission further cautioned against the activities of “unscrupulous agents” who exploit young Nigerian women with false promises, often leading them into slavery or prostitution upon arrival in Iraq.
