 THE Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) will be participating in the forthcoming activities to mark UNESCO’s designation of Rabat, Morocco, as World Book Capital for 2026, running from April 23 2026, to April 22 2027.

The development was part of the outcome of a recent meeting between Dr Wale Okediran, the PAWA Secretary General and Madam Latifa Moftaqir, the Director of the Rabat World Book Capital project.

The meeting, which took place in Madam Latifa’s office in Rabat, Morocco, dwelt extensively on how PAWA can complement Rabat’s commitment to promoting the Book Industry, enhancing literacy, and empowering youth and women through reading.

Rabat will be the fifth African city to be chosen as UNESCO’s Book Capital till date.

Other African cities are: Alexandria, Egypt (2002); Port Harcourt, Nigeria (2014); Conakry, Guinea (2017); Accra, Ghana (2023);
