THE Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described the peaceful conduct of the recent elections in the Federal Capital Territory as proof of residents’ dedication to democracy and responsible governance.

Speaking in a special broadcast yesterday evening through a statement issued by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, Wike said the outcome of the polls revealed what he termed the insincerity of certain political actors.

According to him, the elections exposed individuals who engage in symbolic gestures such as buying corn and groundnuts from roadside vendors during campaigns as a strategy to mislead voters.

He argued that the exercise demonstrated that Nigerians can clearly distinguish between the ruling party and what he described as the “real opposition,” adding that residents of the FCT refused to be swayed by what he called “emergency democrats” who, in his view, consistently portray the country and its government negatively.

Wike lauded Bola Tinubu, saying the successful conduct of the elections reflects the President’s leadership and vision.

He noted that the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda has restored confidence and optimism among FCT residents, citing ongoing development efforts as evidence of the government’s commitment.

The minister also commended Tinubu for supporting amendments to the Electoral Act aimed at strengthening the credibility of elections, describing the move as a clear sign of the President’s dedication to deepening Nigeria’s democratic process.

In addition, Wike lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what he called a free, fair, and credible poll, as well as security agencies for ensuring a peaceful atmosphere throughout the exercise.

He urged those elected to serve with humility and focus on delivering tangible improvements to their communities.

Addressing residents, particularly those in satellite towns, Wike expressed appreciation for their orderly participation and encouraged continued support for the administration’s efforts to advance development across the FCT.
