THE National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has said the party is willing to engage in discussions with other opposition parties as political alignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview yesterday, Dickson explained that while the NDC remains open to coalition negotiations, the party hopes any eventual agreement will result in support for its candidates.

According to him, discussions among opposition parties are expected to continue after the conclusion of party nomination processes.

Although he declined to predict the outcome of any negotiations, Dickson maintained that every option remains on the table as political parties explore possible alliances.

His comments come against the backdrop of ongoing efforts by opposition parties to build a stronger front ahead of the next general election.

In 2025, several prominent opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, initially united under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

However, internal disagreements, legal disputes and leadership challenges within the party later saw Obi emerge as the presidential candidate of the NDC, while Atiku secured the ADC’s presidential ticket.

The opposition’s efforts to consolidate have been complicated by court cases challenging the ADC’s leadership and attempts to deregister the party, developments that have created uncertainty within the coalition movement.

Despite the challenges, Dickson expressed confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) could be defeated if Nigerians are given the opportunity to participate in a credible electoral process.

He argued that the country’s current political climate reflects widespread dissatisfaction among citizens and called for free and fair elections in which every qualified political party is allowed to participate without interference.

Dickson also dismissed the lawsuit seeking the deregistration of the NDC, describing it as politically motivated and lacking merit.

He insisted that the legal action would not affect the party’s preparations for future elections or the validity of its nominations.

The former Bayelsa State governor further defended the party’s logo against claims of infringement, noting that the peace sign has long been recognised as a universal symbol and cannot be exclusively claimed by any individual or organisation.

He maintained that the NDC complied with all constitutional and legal requirements during its registration and expressed confidence that all of the party’s candidates would appear on the ballot in the 2027 elections.
