SEVERAL lives are feared lost after an explosion struck a commercial bus near Woro Village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Military sources disclosed that the incident occurred early this morning, March 23, 2026, when a vehicle travelling from Wurumakoto in Kaiama LGA to New Bussa in neighbouring Niger State unknowingly drove over an improvised explosive device.

The blast, which happened on impact, reportedly killed the driver, identified as Mallam Zunairu, instantly.

Several passengers sustained severe injuries, while others are believed to have died, although the exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.

Injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in New Bussa for urgent medical treatment.

Security authorities suspect the explosive was planted by armed groups operating in the area, possibly linked to recent attacks in the Woro axis.

Following the incident, joint security operatives were deployed to the scene, where another explosive device was later discovered and safely defused by army specialists.

Despite heightened security presence along the Kaiama–Woro corridor, officials noted that criminal elements appear to be adopting new tactics, including the use of improvised explosive devices.

The Woro area has witnessed increasing insecurity in recent weeks.

In February, the community experienced a major attack that left many residents dead and several others abducted.
