A fresh effort to resolve internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is now underway, with leaders from opposing camps initiating steps toward reconciliation.

Tanimu Turaki, who heads one faction of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), confirmed today that both sides have started engaging in dialogue aimed at restoring unity.

In a statement he personally signed, Turaki explained that party leaders are currently exploring different options to achieve a lasting resolution.

He noted that discussions have already begun, describing the development as both sides “breaking the ice.”

He also urged party supporters to avoid inflammatory statements or actions that could disrupt the ongoing peace process.

Turaki reassured party aspirants that despite the internal crisis, the PDP remains committed to fielding candidates for all elective positions, in line with its constitutional provisions.

He further expressed appreciation to Nigerians who have continued to support the party, highlighting the steady interest and registrations recorded on its platform.

According to him, this loyalty has strengthened the party’s resolve to address its challenges and rebuild cohesion.

Emphasizing the importance of opposition in a democratic system, Turaki stated that beyond elections, democracy thrives on active civic engagement and strong opposition parties that hold the government accountable.

He reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to playing that role, referencing its history of governing Nigeria for 16 years.

Turaki also reminded public office holders that they remain accountable to the people, stressing that governance must always reflect the will of the citizens.

In addition, he conveyed a vote of confidence in Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde, commending their leadership and resilience during the party’s recent challenges.

He went further to assure Nigerians that the PDP remains active and will participate in upcoming elections, positioning itself as a credible platform for competitive democratic engagement.
