THE former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has reiterated his commitment to serve only a single four-year term if elected president of Nigeria.
In a video excerpt from an upcoming interview on News Central TV, Obi said his decision is driven by a desire for political stability, stressing that he would not remain in office beyond four years under any circumstance.
“I want to be a one-term president because of stability. I would not stay a day, with a gun to my head, longer than four years,” he said.
Obi also used the interview to criticise the current administration’s economic direction, particularly issues around borrowing and the rising cost of living, arguing that Nigeria is going through one of its most difficult economic periods.
The former Anambra State governor, who contested the 2023 presidential election and finished third, has remained a prominent opposition figure since the polls, consistently engaging in public debates on governance and economic policy.
