RANGERS of Enugu have won the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League title after defeating Ikorodu City 2-1 in Lagos today.
With the triumph, the Flying Antelopes claimed a record-equalling NPFL crown.
Captain Chidiebere Nwobodo struck in each half to hand Rangers the crucial victory, with Rivers United breathing down their necks.
The home side pulled one back in the 58th minute through substitute Moses Ali after Rangers goalkeeper Lucky Jimoh failed to properly deal with a long-range effort.
Rangers finished the campaign top of the table with 68 points from 38 matches, just one point ahead of Finidi George’s Rivers United, who ended their season with a 3-0 victory over Katsina United in Port Harcourt.
The triumph marks coach Fidelis Ilechukwu’s second league title with the Enugu-based club and sees Rangers equal the all-time NPFL championship record held by South East rivals Enyimba.
Following their title success, Rangers will represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League alongside runners-up Rivers United.
Former champions Remo Stars failed to retain their NPFL status following a 1-1 draw at Bendel Insurance, while El-Kanemi Warriors were also unable to escape relegation after losing 3-0 at Enyimba.
El-Kanemi, Wikki Tourists, Remo Stars and Bayelsa United will play in the second-tier Nigeria National League next season.
Despite a 1-0 defeat at Niger Tornadoes, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) held on to third spot and will represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
