THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed, has announced former Cross River State governorship candidate, Senator Sandy Onor, as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The announcement was made today at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, during the collation and presentation of the PDP presidential primary results.
Chairman of the Presidential Primaries Collation Committee and former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, said the emergence of Onor followed extensive consultations and voice votes conducted among party members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Ortom, the committee engaged stakeholders and party faithful nationwide before arriving at the consensus decision ahead of the official declaration.
Senator Sandy Onor emerged as the sole aspirant after formally declaring his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election and purchasing the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms earlier this month.
Following the announcement, the PDP leadership presented Onor with the party’s flag and certificate of return as its presidential candidate for the 2027 polls.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Prof. Rhoda Habor Gumus, monitored the exercise at the party headquarters.
The development marks an early political move by the PDP as preparations gradually begin ahead of the 2027 general election.
