THE governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has dismissed reports suggesting that he is being considered as the running mate to former President Goodluck Jonathan in a proposed 2027 presidential bid.
The clarification follows widespread speculation on social media after Jonathan emerged as the presidential candidate of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Turaki during a special national convention held in Abuja on Saturday.
Although Jonathan was not present at the convention, his certificate of return was received on his behalf by Bayelsa lawmaker Fred Agbedi.
The rumours gained momentum after a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress, Nuhu Sada, claimed on X that Mohammed was being considered as Jonathan’s vice-presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, Governor Mohammed has firmly rejected the speculation, stating that he is not involved in any such political arrangement.
In a statement shared via his verified X account yesterday, he emphasized that his political focus is on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement.
He urged the public to disregard reports suggesting otherwise, describing them as speculative and inaccurate.
Mohammed, who recently left the PDP for the APM amid ongoing internal crises within the opposition party, reiterated that his current political ambition remains the Bauchi South Senate race and not any vice-presidential position in 2027.
