THE presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has responded strongly to comments made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his remarks on the 2027 general elections in Rivers State.

Wike had recently stated that Atiku and the ADC would not secure up to 10 percent of votes in Rivers State during the next presidential election, adding that the ruling political coalition in the state would dominate the governorship and presidential polls.

Reacting through a statement issued by his media aide, Atiku dismissed Wike’s comments as presumptuous, insisting that the electorate in Rivers State cannot be controlled or dictated to by any individual.

He argued that voters in Rivers State are politically aware and will make their choices based on their assessment of governance, economic conditions, and national direction, rather than political predictions or influence.

Atiku further stated that no political office holder, regardless of access to federal power or influence, has the authority to determine how an entire state will vote.

He also accused the minister of focusing more on election matters than governance, adding that Nigerians are more concerned about rising living costs, insecurity, and economic hardship than political declarations.

The exchange highlights growing political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections, as major figures intensify positioning and rhetoric across party lines.
