THE Kogi State Government has announced the immediate suspension of the Echane Festival in Ebiraland, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.

According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, the decision followed intelligence reports suggesting that activities associated with the festival could pose risks to public safety and potentially trigger a breakdown of law and order in parts of Kogi Central Senatorial District.

While acknowledging the cultural and historical significance of traditional festivals in preserving the heritage of local communities, the government stressed that the protection of lives and property remains its top priority.

The statement revealed that Usman Ododo approved the suspension as a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding peace and stability across the affected areas.

“The Governor has directed that the Echane Festival be suspended with immediate effect in view of security reports and the need to preserve law and order,” the statement noted.

The government also ordered all security agencies in the state to enforce the directive strictly, warning that anyone found organizing, participating in, or promoting activities related to the suspended festival would face legal consequences.

Governor Ododo reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, emphasizing that proactive steps would continue to be taken to sustain the peace and security of the state.

The government further appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, and residents to cooperate with security agencies and support efforts aimed at maintaining harmony in the affected communities.

It also reaffirmed that security considerations would remain central to decisions regarding public gatherings and activities across the state.
