The Kaduna State Police Command has rescued nine persons abducted by suspected bandits in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of the state but lost two officers in a subsequent ambush.

In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the operation followed credible intelligence received at about 12:45pm on Wednesday, June 24, indicating that about 15 armed bandits had abducted several farmers around Unguwan Sa’idu village, a few kilometres from Birnin Gwari town.

The Area Commander, Birnin Gwari, and the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised patrol teams, including personnel from the Police Mobile Force and KADVIS, and proceeded to the area on a rescue mission.

On arrival, the security operatives engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to flee into the bush on motorcycles.

The police launched a pursuit operation, compelling the suspects to abandon their captives and escape.
