Afrobeats singer and rapper, Oludemilade Martin Alejo, popularly known as YCee, has insisted he has no regrets over his comments on “brain-rot” in the Nigerian content creation industry, despite facing backlash.

He doubled down on his earlier assertion while reacting to the criticism that greeted his comments during a recent interview with Cool FM Lagos.

YCee sparked mixed reactions after using popular TikToker Peller as an example of what he termed the rise of the “olodo uprising” in skit-making.

According to the 33-year-old artist, Nigerians are increasingly celebrating ignorance instead of intellectual achievement.

Addressing the singer’s “Peller culture” comment—which many netizens interpreted as a subtle jab—Peller’s colleague and fiancée, Jarvis, queried why her boyfriend was singled out during the discussion.

She said, “You even mention my man as ‘Peller culture.’ Everybody has their culture. I have AI culture, everybody has their culture, so please don’t bring that thing here.”

Other Nigerians also slammed the ‘Something Light’ crooner for using the popular TikToker as an example, arguing that he could have made his point without dropping names.

Responding, YCee said he does not owe anyone an apology for using the 21-year-old to buttress his point.

He stated, “Some people are saying I shouldn’t have called Peller’s name, but I said what I said. If you feel offended, you should check yourself. A lot of people are also taking what I said out of context. The olodo uprising is even worse than I thought because there are so many people coming out to defend it.

“My call is to people who are tired of brain-rot content. There is no reason why intelligent people cannot be streamers or content creators.”
