Comedian Bovi Ugboma has suggested that marriages should have a renewable five-year expiry date.
He explained that this approach would motivate spouses to remain attentive and help overcome many problems in marriages.
The comedian shared this during an appearance on the Dear Ife Series podcast, a short clip of which is circulating on X.
He stated, “Expiry is a very powerful word, but I think every marriage should be renewed, for example, every five years.
“Within the two families, (there should be a conversation like), ‘Do you still want to marry? Come and take a look at what has been happening, especially in Africa, where we are very communal.
“When your spouse knows there is a review coming one year from now, he’ll adjust.”
He believes such a discussion would prompt a review of each spouse’s actions and decisions that might be negatively impacting the marriage.
Earlier this month, Bovi mentioned he supports divorce in cases where marriages become unhealthy, arguing that ending a troubled union is often better than remaining in a relationship that leaves either partner unhappy.
“I celebrate when people get divorced because I feel it means one or both people were not breathing well in the marriage. I will not suffer anybody, nor will I want anybody to suffer me,” he said on The Morayo Show.
