THE Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old housewife, Sadiya Lawal, for allegedly attempting to kill her husband by slitting his throat while he was asleep in Katsina metropolis.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued yesterday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq.

According to the statement, the victim, Jamilu Ibrahim, reported the incident at the Central Market Police Division at about 9:00 a.m. after the alleged attack, which reportedly occurred around 5:30 a.m.

Police said Ibrahim sustained a deep neck wound and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he is receiving treatment and responding well.

Officers who visited the scene arrested the suspect and recovered the knife believed to have been used in the attack.

The police added that the woman remains in custody and will be charged in court once investigations are completed.

In a separate operation, the command announced that it successfully repelled an attempted bandit attack in Dandume Local Government Area, recovering two motorcycles and a machete abandoned by fleeing suspects.

According to the police, a distress call was received on June 28 reporting that a large group of armed bandits riding motorcycles had been sighted along the Kadisau–Sheme Road in Dandume. The Divisional Police Officer swiftly deployed personnel from the Violent Crimes Response Unit alongside members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps to the area.

The operatives engaged the suspected bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat.

During the operation, the suspects abandoned two operational motorcycles and a machete, which were recovered as exhibits.

Security agencies said efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend those who escaped.

Reacting to both incidents, the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Umar Fage, commended the officers involved in the successful operation against the bandits and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

He also cautioned residents against domestic violence, urging families to resolve disputes through peaceful and lawful means while encouraging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information that would assist the police in tackling crime.

The police noted that the latest operations build on earlier successes recorded in May, when officers foiled separate kidnapping and cattle-rustling attempts in Kankara and Malumfashi Local Government Areas, rescuing 11 abducted passengers and recovering 25 stolen cattle.
