PSC promotes 93 senior officers, appoints 13 new AIG

THE Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 93 senior police officers to higher ranks after they successfully completed the commission’s written examinations and oral interviews held at its headquarters in Abuja.

The promotions were ratified during the commission’s plenary meeting yesterday at the PSC Corporate Headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to a statement issued by the commission’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, the exercise saw 13 Commissioners of Police promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), while 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police were elevated to substantive Commissioners of Police.

The commission also approved the promotion of 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police to Deputy Commissioners of Police and 33 Chief Superintendents of Police to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.

The newly promoted Assistant Inspectors General are Itam Nnaghe Obono, Bassey Samuel Ewah, Osagie John Agans-Irabor, Monday Agbonika, Iyamah Daniel Adebor, Isa Danladi Nda, Akaninyene Ezima, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, Afegbua B. Rashid, Edozie Hycenth Azuka, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin.

The commission also elevated 17 Deputy Commissioners to the rank of Commissioner of Police. They include Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle A. Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Rita Oyintare, Ibrahim Umar Zungura, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu, Nuruddeen A. Sabo, Tijjani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Ahmed, Adedeji Taiwo and Zainab A. Pembi.

In addition to the senior promotions, the PSC confirmed the appointments of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I (ASP I).

Speaking after the exercise, PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the promoted officers and urged them to justify the confidence placed in them through dedication and exemplary service.

He advised the officers to remain honest, transparent and accountable in the discharge of their duties while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism.

Argungu also cautioned them against becoming involved in civil disputes, particularly matters relating to land ownership.

The PSC chairman further reminded the officers to safeguard their integrity throughout their careers, stressing that their reputation should remain their greatest asset even after retirement.

He encouraged them to conduct themselves in ways that would earn public trust and ensure that their actions continue to reflect positively on the Nigeria Police Force.
