FORMER Flying Eagles of Nigeria player Daniel Daga has had his convinction in a sexual case overturned upon appeal in Norway.

Daga’s Norwegian top flight club Molde FK announced the Frostating court of appeal’s ruling in a statement yesterday.

The 19-year-old was sentenced in March to a six-month jail term for an alleged sexual assault on an unnamed woman.

The incident was reported to have happened in April 2025, while Daga was charged on December 19.

Following the conviction, Daga was sidelined from selection at Molde FK indefinitely.

“Daniel Daga has been unanimously acquitted in the criminal case that has been heard by the Frostating Court of Appeal. Molde FK takes note of the verdict, even though the verdict is not yet final,” the club stated.

“The club acknowledges that this has been a serious and burdensome case for everyone who has been affected.

“Since the indictment was issued, Molde FK has made ongoing assessments based on the situation and the club’s responsibility as an employer.

“Now that the Court of Appeal’s verdict is available and Daniel Daga has been acquitted, we as an employer consider that Daniel will be available to play for Molde FK in the future.”

Molde CEO Vegard Daniel said: “We have today received information about the Court of Appeal’s verdict. This has been a demanding period for everyone involved, and we want to approach it with respect and consideration for everyone who has been affected.

“Out of consideration for those involved, Molde FK will not go into further details of the case.”

Daga, a midfielder, joined Molde in 2025 after standing out for the Flying Eagles at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2023 and the FIFA U-20 World Cup the same year.
