THE Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the immediate removal of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations linking him to an alleged corruption scandal involving the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

In a statement issued today by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the opposition party described the allegations as serious, arguing that Gbajabiamila’s continued stay in office could undermine the credibility of any investigation into the matter.

According to the NDC, the alleged PFIPC, which the Presidency has reportedly denied is a recognised government agency, was used to divert public funds.

The party cited claims made by Prince Matthew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who identifies himself as the Director-General of the organisation, alleging that the agency received allocations in the 2026 budget and operated several financial accounts, including domiciliary accounts and a Treasury Single Account (TSA).

The party questioned how an organisation reportedly disowned by the Presidency could allegedly secure government funding, open accounts at the Central Bank of Nigeria, and obtain official approvals for its operations.

The NDC also referenced allegations that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service approved 314 staff positions for the agency, saying such claims, if verified, would raise significant concerns about accountability within public institutions.

In addition, the party cited allegations by Adeyemi that the Chief of Staff demanded 48 per cent of the agency’s take-off grant, reportedly valued at more than ₦27.3 billion.

It also referred to claims that Adeyemi secured his appointment after an alleged ₦600 million payment, with ₦400 million reportedly paid through intermediaries while a balance of ₦200 million remained outstanding.

Describing the allegations as indicative of possible institutional corruption and the alleged sale of public appointments, the NDC urged President Bola Tinubu to establish an independent investigative panel to examine the activities of the alleged agency, including its reported budgetary allocations, financial accounts, staff approvals and transactions.

The party further called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Nigeria Police Force to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.

The statement also referenced the death of Babatunde Tanimola, who was the intermediary between Adeyemi and the Chief of Staff, who reportedly died in a hotel fire in Utako, Abuja, in October 2025.

The NDC urged investigators to examine the circumstances surrounding his death alongside Adeyemi’s claims that he had survived multiple assassination attempts, while also calling for witness protection for him.

Additionally, the party requested that officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service be questioned over their alleged involvement in the matter.

The NDC maintained that anyone found culpable after a thorough investigation should be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

At the time of the party’s statement, the allegations remained unproven, and no court had determined the claims against those mentioned.
