Fresh communal violence has erupted in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, with the Niger State Police Command confirming the deaths of two people in an incident linked to a lingering land dispute between Fulani and Kamuku communities.

The latest violence, which affected Godoro village in Katako District as well as the neighbouring communities of Mararraban Gwadaro and Tashan Bako, initially sparked reports that about 10 people had been killed and several houses burnt.

However, the Niger State Police Command said only two deaths have so far been officially confirmed.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the Command received a report on June 30, 2026, at about 2 p.m., of an attack that occurred the previous night.
