THE Edo State Police Command has announced a statewide restriction on movement from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, as part of security measures for the forthcoming local government elections.
The command said the directive is intended to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and secure electoral process and will be enforced in collaboration with other security agencies operating in the state.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, said both vehicular and pedestrian movement would be prohibited throughout the restriction period.
However, the order will not apply to officials of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), accredited election observers, accredited media personnel, security operatives, emergency responders, and other essential service providers engaged in election-related duties.
According to the police, security personnel have been deployed across all 18 local government areas of Edo State to enforce the restriction, safeguard voters and election officials, secure sensitive electoral materials, and maintain public order.
The command warned that anyone who violates the movement restriction or engages in activities capable of disrupting the electoral process will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, assured residents that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to guarantee a safe and peaceful election.
He urged eligible voters to conduct themselves responsibly while exercising their civic rights and to comply with the guidelines issued by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission.
Agbonika also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that the local government elections are conducted in a peaceful, free, fair, and credible atmosphere.
