STANLEY Nwabali has made a surprise return to Chippa United, the South African club announced today.
Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper Nwabali left Chippa United by mutual consent in February, apparently seeking a bigger platform for his talent.
However, he remained without a club since then and lost his place in the Nigeria national team, with Maduka Okoye of Udinese taking his spot.
The 30-year-old has now made a shock comeback to the South African top-flight club.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys,” the club stated on X today.
“After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.”
Nwabali initially joined Chippa United from Nigeria Premier Football League club Katsina United in 2022, making 76 appearances in all competitions, keeping 24 clean sheets and captaining the team.
He has played 34 times for the Super Eagles, including as first choice in the last two Africa Cup of Nations editions, conceded 29 goals and kept 12 clean sheets.
