Cyril Dessers was on target in the opening game of the Belgian Pro League season for Genk today, while Alex Iwobi played a part in Everton’s pre-season victory over Blackpool.

Super Eagles striker Dessers, who was on loan at Feyenoord last season, was in the starting line-up and scored his side’s first game of the match as Genk visited Club Brugge.

Andreas Olsen netted the opening goal of the game in the 22nd minute for the hosts, but Dessers struck eight minutes later to pull Genk level.

Treson Ndayishi then gave Genk the lead two minutes into the second half as they sought to hand a home defeat to the champions.

However, Hans Vanaken restored parity for Brugge on the hour mark before Olsen struck again two minutes into added time, moments after Cyle Larin missed a penalty.

Dessers was in action for 78 minutes before he was replaced by Andreas Nemeth.

Also in Belgium, Nigerian midfielder Alhassan Yusuf played all 90 minutes as Royal Antwerp secured a 2-0 win away to KV Mechelen.

Michael Frey scored both goals in the first half to give Antwerp victory in their opening fixture.

In England, Iwobi replaced Salomon Rondon in the 60th minute as Everton defeated Blackpool in a pre-season friendly at Bloomfield Road.

Everton were 2-1 up before Iwobi’s introduction, and they scored their third goal through Dele Alli just four minutes after the Super Eagles star got involved.

It is Everton’s first win in three pre-season games after defeats to Arsenal (2-0) and Minnesota United (4-0).
