EUROPE’S football governing body UEFA has awarded the hosting rights for the next two European Championships after the 2024 tournament, with the United Kingdom and Ireland organising Euro 2028 and Italy and Turkey jointly staging Euro 2032.

The UK and Ireland bid for Euro 2028 was unopposed after Turkey withdrew to focus on its joint bid with Italy for Euro 2032.

The UEFA executive committee announced the decisions today, which means five nations will jointly host the 2028 tournament: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — which make up the UK — and Ireland.

Ten stadia were included in the UK-Ireland bid submission in April, with six of the venues in England, and one each from Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The tournament will be held in June and July of 2028.

The six venues in England are Wembley, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Etihad Stadium, St James’ Park, Villa Park and Everton’s new home at Bramley-Moore Dock, which is currently under construction.

A redeveloped Casement Park in Belfast, the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Hampden Park in Glasgow and the Principality Stadium in Cardiff were the other stadia included in the submission.

As for the 2032 tournament, UEFA said Italy and Turkey presented 20 potential host stadiums, of which 10 will be chosen, five per country, by October 2026.
