VICTOR Osimhen could join the Nigerian legion in the Premier League and become Africa’s most expensive player this summer.
The Super Eagles striker is reportedly being courted by Manchester United, who are looking to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Red Devils have lacked a clinical finisher this season, with Ronaldo’s advancing age slowing him down and Edinson Cavani missing too many games through injury.
On the other hand, Osimhen has been in fine form, scoring 11 goals in 22 appearances for Napoli despite missing over two months due to a cheekbone fracture and subsequent surgery.
Italian outlet Rai Sport’s Ciro Venerato has claimed that the 22-year-old Nigeria international is Manchester United’s major target to replace Ronaldo in the summer.
However, a sticking point could be Napoli’s asking price, which is reported to be at least £84m for the lanky hitman.
With Ronaldo scoring just once in his last 10 games, there are strong indications that the 37-year-old superstar will be allowed to leave Old Trafford in the summer, with Osimhen seen as the ideal replacement.
Osimhen, who cost around €80m to make the Napoli switch from Lille in 2020, would be joining fellow Super Eagles stars like Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and Emmanuel Dennis in the Premier League if the move to Manchester United materialises.
