Team Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan cruised into the final of the women’s 100m hurdles today at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, winning her heat with ease.

The Oregon 2022 World Athletics Championships gold medallist and world record holder not only won her heat today but she produced the fastest time of all the qualifiers by some distance.

Amusan eased ahead in Heat 3 in 12.40 seconds, almost half a second faster than the second-place finisher.

The Nigerian star would have broken the 12.65s Games record if not for the excessive wind reading during her race.

Australia’s Michelle Jenneke finished second behind Amusan in 12.63s, with Michelle Harrison third in 12.85s.

Amusan will lead eight qualifiers into Sunday morning’s final, with Jenneke producing the second-best time overall and England’s Cindy Sember third best in 12.67s.

Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, Amusan’s close friend, also qualified for the final with the sixth-best overall time at 12.80s.
